A statement by John W. Doorly (1984)

The first English edition appeared in 1945 under the simple title “A Statement”. It reflects the dramatic conflict. John W. Doorlys with the Christian Science church organization, which ultimately led to his excommunication. John W. Doorly's statement was long considered untranslatable. When Christa Ascher (my mother) and I presented our translation to Dr. Max Kappeler during an "Easter seminar," he was delighted.
Peggy M. Brook, the then executor of John Doorly's estate, sponsored the print edition of our German translation of this work in 1984 and, among other things, provided complimentary copies to the Kappel Institute for the Science of Being.
The rights to the print edition of our translation belong to the legal successor of Peggy M. Brook. The rights to the translation belong to me. If there is demand, I will offer the "Statement" as an e-book in German translation.

John W. Doorly's closing remarks in his statement on the debate about church organization are as relevant as ever. It is a quote from Mary Baker Eddy's works:
“The spirit of Christianity consists more in deeds than in words; it signifies an unshaken unity with God; a revolt on earth – where religious groups and prejudices have conspired against him and the synagogues remain closed to him as in ancient times, while he contends with the storm, the lightning of Wtruth hurls and silences the storm of error; with every step forward he is scourged and condemned, later pardoned and accepted, but never perceived in the steam of battle” (See Key authors, bibliographies in preparation).
